Leeds Castle

I had a few days off in the week so decided to take a trip to Leeds Castle, about 4 miles south east of the town of Maidstone in Kent. (The castle and the grounds lie to the east of the villiage of Leeds, not the city in West Yorkshire!)

The castle dates back to 1119 but apparently the usage of the grounds for a manor house can be traced back to the 9th Century. The house and grounds are very impressive and you can see why King Edward I used this place as his home.

Aside from the castle side of things, there was lots to do. After conquering the maze I explored the aviary and was invited to take part in a bit of falconry.

A close call with a peacock and I decided it was time to head off home but will definitely return again.

I would say to parents that these peacocks are quite nasty creatures so whatch them around your toddlers, especially if they are eating food, this particular fellow was after my chipsticks.

There is some kind of offer on at the moment where you buy one ticket and then can go back as many times as you want in a year.
I definitely recommend the place as 'worth a visit' and give it a whopping '3 Bananas' in my top attraction rating.

Monkey's Holiday Snaps

As promised here are the pictures sent to me by a good friend of mine, Monkey.

He has been over in the UK for a few months and has been hoping to take advantage of our summer, which is a bit unfortunate when you look at the
weather we’ve been having, but it looks like he’s made the most of what we’ve had.

Monkey Base Jumping off the coast Cornwall – apparently he had to make a swift getaway after landing as the local lifeguard was ‘not amused’

Stonehenge – I won’t repeat what he said about Stonehenge but he was less than disappointed.

Living on the wild side – good to see you’re still partial to a bit of the old Nando’s extra hot Monkey!

Monkey in Newquay – I was going to post the picture of you in your wetsuit mate but I thought I’d spare you the embarrassment.

Monkey – Good to see they’re treating you well at Monkey World, say hello to the Anika Rice if you see her!

Continental Roadtrip

It's Easter Weekend and I have decided to take a spontaneous trip to the continent. As my frieds were driving there anyway, I though I get a lift. We took the channel tunnel to France and then followed the E40 all the way through France, Belgium, into Germany where we stayed for the weekend.

There was not much planned for the time in Germany apart from catching up with Jo's family, so I thought that I will take one day off to take some flying lessons from Jo's dad. We drove in a stylish convertible to a small, nearby airport, where I was allowed to have a go at flying Jo's dad's plane. It was great. We flew for about 50mins in a big circle pointing out the landmarks in the local area, so we didn't get lost, and even managed to circle around Jo's parents' house a couple of time before landing safely on the ground again. It was an experience I would recomend to anyone!!!

This completed my weekend at the Lapka's and soon it was time to head back onto the E40 all the way to England!

KM's Big Quiz 2007

Last Friday I had a trip out with some friends to take part in the Kent Messenger's annual Big Quiz. More than 70 teams were there! After a cheeky pint and a banana I was all set to answer they questions, unfortunately there weren't any about monkey related matters so I wasn't much use. Our team still came 14th, so not a bad result! Can't wait for next year!

This photo was in the local paper - look carefully and you'll see me!

A few beers on the go, only one of them was mine though (plus the wine)!

Here I am playing our "joker" card.

Happy Birthday Aidy!

It's my good friend Aidy's birthday today, so a trip to the local hostelry with our friends was in order this lunchtime.

Here I am outside the Dolphin in Canterbury.

I've a fair bit of work to do this afternoon - bananas and that - so I thought one pint was probably enough.

Happy 23rd Birthday to Adrian Harris!!!
